The music takes so many different paths you never know where you will end up. Stardust is an amazing song full of hope and so fucking good as is the whole album. Favorite track: Stardust.

While keeping their DIY approach and their wide musical palette heard on their 2017 self-titled EP, Toulouse’s hard rock trio Distortion Ride is expanding to new musical horizons with their first full-length album “Burning Waves of Silence”.

Distortion Ride delivers an eclectic collection of music from blues based heavy riffs to melancholic progressive landscapes. Therefore, their music sometimes leans towards psychedelic rock, progressive rock or metal.
Olivier (drums) : “We like to keep the door open for different genres of music, that’s how we ended up with a reggae part on ‘Where The River Ends’ !”
The album features all the elements of the band’s 2017 EP (wide dynamics between heavy & soft parts, uncommon time signatures, bluesy & operatic vocals, expressive guitar solos…) with a will to blend them together more consistently.

Production-wise, the band aimed for a slightly polished but natural sounding record. Matt (vocals / guitar) : “Except for the 1st part of ‘Stardust’, we recorded the whole album without a metronome and we didn’t go too crazy with the overdubs. For the end section of ‘Night Of The Black Snow’ we even recorded a real musicbox to avoid using virtual instruments while I emulated a cello by playing my guitar with a cello bow.”
To highlight that organic feel, the mastering was done by Andy Jackson, longtime Pink Floyd & David Gilmour engineer.

With different events impacting Matt’s life during the writing of the album and the current global situation, the lyrical content of the album focuses on grief and death, the feeling of inadequacy, the ecosystem’s destruction (climate crisis, solastalgia) and the search for some kind of spirituality.
